Jacob - One Month

Tomorrow will be one month since Jacob joined our family. I thought being a mother to a toddler kept me busy but Jacob keeps us going 2 times more. He is starting to learn English when he tries. He told our friend that he did not want to learn English, he wanted to keep speaking his Chinese. She told him he could not do this as he lived in America now and had to learn to speak the language. So, when we know he can say the English word, we do not give things to him or allow he to do something until he tells us in English. This has helped and he is speaking more English to us.

He had is first Doctor's visit yesterday and had gained 9 pounds since he was weighed in Guangzhou. The boy like to eat! He does not over eat, but he eats everything that is in his plate.
We are blessed to have a Doctor the is an International Adoption Specialist and has adopted 2 international children himself. He said Jacob was very healthy 7 year old boy. The mild issues that were eluded to from his Chinese records were not found on his exam. Jacob does have a bad rash on his back and buttocks. Our MD was able to get us a Dermatologist appointment immediately after leaving his office so we did not have to make a second trip on another day. His rash was diagnosed with this really long word which basically means he has a rash that is in the eczema, psoriasis families. She started him on a treatment plan to help resolve the rash.

So, life is more busy than we thought it would be, but happy. We have had challenges parenting an older adopted child, but we are able to over come them. Jacob tells all of our Chinese friends that he loves his family and loves his new life. This statement makes it all worth it.

  1. He is absolutely adorable. I love the toothless grin. Moli was reluctant to give up Mandarin also- but they are soaking it all in anyway. When he chooses to speak more English you'll be amazed by what he knows!
